Want to make a difference and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time? Join us for a fun and rewarding day of planting sphagnum moss on Darwen Moor, right in the heart of Lancashire’s stunning upland peatlands! By getting involved, you’ll be helping restore these vital landscapes, boosting carbon storage, improving water quality, and supporting local wildlife.

No experience? No problem! Whether you’re a seasoned conservationist or a complete beginner, we’ll provide all the tools, training, and expert guidance you need. Our team at the Lancashire Peat Partnership will be there every step of the way to show you the ropes, so don’t worry if you’ve never planted moss before!

What to expect:

• A day spent in the great outdoors with like-minded volunteers.

• Expert tips and hands-on conservation work.

• Stunning views and the chance to help protect an internationally important habitat.

You'll need to be over 16 years of age for this event. You’ll also need a reasonable level of fitness for the day, as we’ll be walking about 5km (3 miles) with some uphill sections and uneven, boggy ground. Dress for the elements (the weather can change quickly on the hills!), with sturdy walking boots that have good grip and ankle support (no trainers or wellies, please). Bring plenty of food, snacks and drinks for the day. We’ll provide all the safety gear you need.
