Practical Conservation Volunteer (July Balsam Busting Sessions - New Moss Wood, Cadishead and Darcy Lever Gravel Pits, Bolton)
Did you know that the non-native plant Himalayan Balsam is stopping our native plant species from growing in the wild?
Join us as part of a friendly team to pull up Himalayan Balsam by hand at:
-
New Moss Wood, Cadishead on Wednesday 2nd or Thursday 3rd of July or
-
Darcy Lever Gravel Pits in Bolton on Wednesday 16th or Thursday 17th of July.
This is a great opportunity to get some fresh air, meet like-minded people, and make a real difference for local wildlife. By helping us to remove as much Himalayan Balsam as possible, you'll be playing a vital role in conserving our wet willow woodland habitat – a precious home for species like the willow tit, one of the UK's most threatened birds. No experience needed – just enthusiasm for the outdoors and protecting nature.
What you'll need:
• Sturdy footwear
• Long trousers and long sleeves (to protect against scratches, stings, and insect bites)
• Gloves
• Weather-appropriate clothing (sun cream, sun hat, or rain gear depending on the day)
• Insect repellent
• A drink and a snack
