Conservation Team Volunteer (Brockholes)
Brockholes Nature Reserve, like most reserves, replies upon committed and enthusiastic Conservation Team Volunteers to undertake a range of practical tasks where many hands are needed. The teams comprise 10 – 15 people, with each team member signed up specifically as part of a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday team.
Collectively the team volunteers help create and upkeep the diverse wetland, grassland and woodland habitats for wildlife, and to maintain, repair and install reserve infrastructure, again for wildlife and additionally for the benefit of visitors. There are also income generating practical tasks such as log splitting and stacking, to make firewood for sale.
A good level of fitness and experience in undertaking practical work is needed in order to become a team member.
Team tasks are achieved under the supervision and guidance of the Reserve Officers, so all volunteers have the opportunity to learn from staff and from peers about the reserve’s habitats, how to manage them, and what wildlife they support.
Note that a prior familiarity with undertaking habitat management or practical tasks (existing skills in agriculture, forestry, horticulture, joinery & construction) will be highly valued when we recruit new team members.
We are currently recruiting for volunteers to join our Thursday Team.
