Practical Conservation Volunteer (Heysham Conservation Champions)

Opportunity image

We will be carrying out weekly volunteer sessions at Heysham Nature Reserve, aimed at improving habitats and supporting the wildlife found there.

Activities will include a range of practical conservation tasks to improve habitats for wildlife, such as tree planting and scrub clearance, as well as citizen science surveys and other activities.

No skills, knowledge or experience needed, just an enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation and willingness to get stuck in to outdoor activities in all weather!

Sessions will be two hours long and are suitable for a range of abilities, but a moderate level of physical fitness will be required (e.g. walking for up to 20 minutes, walking over rough or uneven ground, using hand tools such as loppers and saws, carrying equipment). We are aiming to make this group as accessible as possible, so please feel free to get in touch if you have any access concerns.

We will provide the tools, training and personal protective equipment for the tasks and just ask that you wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather.

The sessions will start with a 6-week trial period, beginning 4th November, and will hopefully continue after that.

If you’d like to get outdoors, help nature and meet new people, we’d love for you to apply.
